PRODUCTS
2.01
MANUFACTURERS
The chain and
flight monitoring system shall be as manufactured by one
of the following manufacturers, modified as necessary to
meet the Specification requirements:
1. Polytech Systems Inc., Little Rock, CA.
2. Or equal.
2.02 EQUIPMENT
General: Provide a
"chain and flight collector monitoring system" for each
collector. Complete with flight (Optional) (and chain)
sensing paddles, Hall effect non contacting immersible
sensors, mounting brackets, control panel and control
panel mounting stand.
Sensing paddles: The sensing paddles shall be
manufactured from 316 stainless steel and will be mounted
on a single axle point with a flexible rubber stop that
will limit the forward motion of the paddle. The paddle
shall be balanced to rest against the rubber stop when
not in contact with a chain or flight. The rubber stop
will be designed such that if the chain system is jogged
backwards it will allow the paddle to pass the stop
without damaging the paddle. The paddle shall be arranged
to contact the flight at the wear shoe as the flight
passes the sensing point. (Optional) The paddle shall
have an extension that can sense each chain barrel as it
passes the sensing point.
Mounting Brackets: The mounting brackets shall be
manufactured from cast C6 nylon, fiberglass or 316
stainless steel and will be mounted to the tank walls
with 316 stainless steel epoxy anchors. All attachments
to the brackets shall be with 316 stainless steel bolts,
nuts and washers.
Sensors: The sensors shall sense the movement of the
paddles and will be of the immersible type. The sensor
shall use the "Hall Effect" to create a non contacting
sensing of the position of the flight ( and the chain
barrel ). On submersible installations, the Polytech
Sensor shall have a cable potted directly to the switch
cavity. The cable shall be of sufficient length to be
able to directly connect to the local control panel.
Cables shall run in PVC conduit.
Local Control Pane.: The locally mounted control panel
shall be of NEMA 4X fiberglass construction suitable for
wash down. The control panel door for 1, 2, & 3 tank
systems shall have pilot lights for indication of the
collector running, excess misalignment, and loss of
motion. A system off-on selector switch and common
alarm-reset pushbutton. The control panel door for 4 thru
10 tank systems shall have a touch screen work station.
The work station will monitor and display collector
running and alarms for each tank, system off-on selection
for each tank, and common alarm reset. The panel interior
shall include controls specific to the collector and
provide optional remote alarm contact defining loss of
motion and flight misalignment (alarm and shutdown). The
sensitivity of loss of motion shall be adjustable. The
panel shall use a programmable logic controller to
monitor the sensors, activate collector running and
associated alarms via pilot lights for 1, 2, & 3 tank
systems or touch screen work station for 4 thru 10 tank
systems. Programmable controller isolated relay output
module providing a normally closed shutdown output module
for 4 thru 10 tank systems, or external relays for 1, 2,
& 3 tank systems to each chain drive motor starter
upon loss of motion and misalignment shut down. A maximum
of ten tanks will be controlled a single local control
panel.
(Optional Remote Alarm Indication) For 1, 2, &3 tank
systems, provide dry relay contacts wired to a terminal
block for each tank (three alarms per tank). For 4 thru
10 tank systems, the GE Genius two wire I/O will be
provided to transmit all alarms to remote mounted Genius
output modules which will provide dry contact outputs for
each alarm for remote indication. Transmission up to 1000
feet. Programmable logic controllers shall be GE Micro
PLC for system with up to two collectors. GE series 90-30
units shall be used for up to ten tanks with an
appropriate number of slot racks.
Operation: With the individual tank monitoring system
off-on selector switch in the "on" position flight
position monitoring will begin when the chain drive is
started. Zero speed will shut down the chain drive motor,
and turn on the loss of motion pilot light for 1, 2,
& 3 tank systems, or display on work station for 4
thru 10 tank systems. If one chain jumps one link based
on flight detection by the sensors, the misalignment
alarm pilot light for 1, 2, & 3 tank systems will be
turned on or displayed on the work station for 4 thru 10
tank systems. If one chain jumps two links or more based
flight detection by the sensors, the misalignment shut
down pilot light for 1, 2, & 3 tank systems will be
turned on or displayed on the work station for 4 thru 10
tank systems and the chain drive will be shut down.
PLC is programmed for 2, 3, 4, & 5 ft./min systems.
Internal timers for different chain speed can be changed
through the work station or hand-held programmer by
changing ft./min setting.
Local Control Mounting: The local control panel shall be
mounted on an aluminum stand fastened to the concrete
with 316 stainless steel epoxy anchors.
